Dermatology Biopsy Results
Q. MY BIOPSY IS OK… BUT YOU WANT TO SEE ME?
A. We strive to have educated patients so you don’t have to ‘google’ everything once you leave our office. I mean, if you can’t trust your doctor, you need a new doctor! One question I get from time to time is, “why do I need to come back if my biopsy is fine?” Well, I can think of at least 3 reasons. One is to make sure your site is healing ok. Many people think their site is infected because it is red around the outside. This is normal! When we remove skin, the area around the spot gets red as the healing cells come to the rescue causing this inflammatory response. We can reassure patients that this is normal, and provide them tips on how to make things heal faster. Also, just because it isn’t cancer, doesn’t mean you should wonder about something of possible concern. This is our goal! I teach people what to look for, why their mole looked funny, or what their diagnosis means (seborrheic keratosis). Lastly, we build relationships and people love good news from their doctor. While we are doing well statistically (our rates of Good/Great visits and patient referrals are above industry standards), we are always striving to do better. One way we want to do better is education. So, know that our goal is to grow you in the knowledge of skin and how to best protect it so we can guarantee you better skin for a better life®
